Prospective Students

Dear Prospective Student,

Hello and welcome from Stanford GSB and the Black Business Student Association! Since you are visiting this page, we hope it means you are considering applying to the Stanford GSB. We have an incredible community and learning environment here and that is fueled by the diversity of people that come here, and we are excited by the prospect of you joining us.

As Admissions Outreach co-chairs for the BBSA, we are here to serve as a resource in your business school application process. In addition to reaching out to us, we encourage you to review the official GSB admissions website and reach out to the Admissions office, which is filled with very nice and helpful people.

Before we go, here are a few thoughts on the GSB and the application process.

This is a great community filled with a broad range of diverse people, backgrounds and interests. We encourage you to visit and get a feel for the place and the people. And if you come anytime besides January or February, we can pretty much guarantee you a beautiful day.

The Bay Area is a great place. Although you might not see as many faces that look like yours as you would like but that’s not to say they’re not out there. And there’s always Oakland.

The BBSA is a close-knit group – although our community is not the biggest, there is a lot of energy behind it. We are really a big family.

You can’t get in if you don’t apply. Don’t be discouraged by the low admissions rates and other statistics – if you feel that this is the place you want to be, apply.

At the same time, be thoughtful about your reasons for applying. Business school applications are very time consuming – make sure you are able to dedicate the kind of time you feel will be necessary to put together the best possible application.

Be honest. Prior to the interview, your application and essays are the primary ways through which you can communicate the type of person you are. Don’t worry about what you think the admissions office might want to hear, focus on telling your story.

We look forward to hearing from you – please don’t hesitate to contact us at any point as you are applying. Good luck!

Sincerely,
Leonard Hinton | Ben Jackson
